Natural Gas Infrastructure, Wyoming: Tracking the Impact

New Landsat images are being collected by SkyTruth as part of an ongoing effort to understand, monitor and publicize the effects of modern energy development on public lands in the West. Biologists are using these images to study how this growing energy "footprint" may be effecting the foraging behavior and migration patterns of important game animals, including pronghorn antelope and mule deer.

This image from 2002 shows the Jonah field after nearly 400 wells
have been installed, approaching the maximum number allowed by the existing management plan.

Early in 2003 industry requested a revision to the plan that would allow the drilling of 1,250 additional wells from 850 new well pads, essentially tripling the infrastructure seen here.
