SkyTruth gratefully acknowledges the efforts of our volunteers, contributions from many of our project partners, and generous support from:

PROJECT PARTNERS

Over the past few years we've conducted projects in partnership with dozens of conservation organizations, government agencies, and scientific researchers. Here are just a few:"

COLLABORATORS

We also collaborate with other organizations to develop projects, new products, and sources of support. We encourage interested groups to contact us. A few current examples:
  • Appalachian Voices

Appalachian Voices brings people together to solve the environmental problems having the greatest impact on the central and southern Appalachian Mountains. Their mission is to empower people to defend the region's rich natural and cultural heritage by providing them with tools and strategies for successful grassroots campaigns. SkyTruth is working with Appalachian Voices to expose the widespread landscape disruption caused by mountaintop removal - the wholesale destruction of mountains and streams to strip-mine the underlying coal (see their mountaintop removal website, ilovemountains.org).

  • Center for Landscape Analysis

CLA uses remote sensing and GIS to analyze environmental impacts and issues. SkyTruth and CLA are working to create 3-d "virtual reality" images and fly-throughs that would allow viewers to take a simulated tour of a proposed development (for instance, a coalbed methane drilling plan, mountaintop removal mine, or housing subdivision).

  • EARTHWORKS

EARTHWORKS is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from the destructive impacts of mineral development, in the U.S. and worldwide. SkyTruth and EARTHWORKS are working in partnership to illuminate the environmental consequences of hardrock mining, particularly gold mining.

  • EcoFlight
EcoFlight, based in Aspen, Colorado works to protect America’s remaining public Wildlands by providing aircraft for environmental advocacy, research and education. EcoFlight combines flight with a suite of other tools that allow for survey, data collection, visual documentation, press coverage and direct community involvement. SkyTruth and EcoFlight are jointly creating a portfolio illustrating the impacts of oil and gas drilling and coal mining on landscapes and communities.

  • Native Action
In cooperation with Native Action, SkyTruth is developing a project to map the spread of coal mining operations and coalbed methane drilling around the Northern Cheyenne reservation in southeastern Montana. Native Action plans to use this work as part of their environmental justice program, to help inform the Cheyenne people and stimulate thei involvement in the land-management decisionmaking process.
